Thirteen killed in road crashes

Thirteen people were killed and 42 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Gazipur, Comilla and Bogra yesterday.In Dhaka, a Bogra bound truck (Bogra Ta-05-0014) from Chittagong skidded off the road and fell into a ditch near Ashulia in Uttara at around 3:10am, killing four labourers on the spot. Two of the dead were identified as Morshedul, 20, and Mokshed Ali, 24. The identity of two other labourers could not be known. The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy at 10:00am. At Tejgaon, an unidentified woman, aged about, 35, was run over and killed by a speeding vehicle on Shaheed Tajuddin Road at around 5:30am. Police recovered the body and sent it to the DMCH morgue for autopsy. A head on collision between two buses on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at Porabari in Gazipur district left five people killed and 30 injured, according to the UNB. Police and witnesses said the accident took place at about 6.45am when a Sreepur bound bus from Dhaka collided with a Dhaka bound bus from Mymensingh. One of the dead was identified as Gazi Anwar Hossain, 45, of Bagher Bazaar. The injured were admitted to Gazipur Sadar Hospital. Of them, 25 were later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. In Comilla, two people were killed and three others injured in a collision between two trucks on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway near Mirswani Bazaar in Chouddagram upazila. Police said an unidentified man died on the spot and four were injured when a Dhaka bound truck from Chittagong collided with a yarn-laden truck coming from opposite direction at about 6:00am. The injured, including helper and driver of the Dhaka bound truck, were rushed to the upazila health complex where doctors declared helper Alamgir, 25, dead. Traffic on the highway remained suspended for three hours. Our Bogra Correspondent reported that one person was killed and ten others were injured in a road accident at Bibirpukur on the Bogra-Naogaon Highway yesterday morning. The dead was identified as Mohsin Ali Sheikh, 60, son of Azimuddin Sheikh of village Bathai Kazipra of Kahalu upazila in Bogra. The injured were admitted to Mohammad Ali Hospital. Witnesses said the accident occurred when a Bogra bound minibus hit a roadside tree at about 10:00am. Police seized the bus but its driver and helper managed to escape.
