Balu killing: Condemnations on


Condemnations from journalists' bodies and student organisations protesting the killing of Janmabhumi editor and Khulna Press Club president Humayun Kabir Balu are still pouring in from various districts.

Our Patuakhali Correspondent reports: All members of Patuakhali Press Club including journalists and workers of four local dailies brought out a joint procession here on Tuesday.

A meeting was held on the premises of the deputy commissioner's (DC) office.

Press Club secretary Zakir Hossain, members advocate Almogir Hossain, Nirmal Kumar Rakhit, Zafor Khan, KM Enayet Hossain, Dainik Shathi editor HM Ahwar Hossain addressed the meeting.

Our Brahmanbaria Correspondent reports: Wearing black badges, members of Brahmanbaria Press Club brought out a mourning procession and held a protest meting on Wednesday on the DC office premises with club secretary Md Arzu in the chair.

Among others, Monjurul Alam, Moshiur Rahman, Dipak Chowdhury Bappy and Abdun Noor addressed the meeting.

After meeting they submitted a memorandum to ADC (general) Miah abdullah Mamun.

Our Satkhira Correspondent reports: Local journalists marched in procession from Satkhira Reporters' Club office which ended at the Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office.

Afterwards, a meeting was held in front of the Bar Association office with Satkhira Reporters' Club convenor Mizanur Rahman in the char. It was addressed, among others, by Prof Abu Ahmed, Kalyan Banerjee, Ram Krishna Chakrabrty, Anisur Rahman, Abul Kalam Azad, Kamruzzaman, Yarab Hossain.

Our RU Correspondent reports: The journalists of Rajshahi University (RU) on Tuesday held a meeting and brought out a silent procession on the campus.

Zamiul Ahsan, the university correspondent of Janakhanta and Nazrul Islam, the university correspondent of Dainik Dinkal addressed the rally.

In separate statements , Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Bangladesh Chhatra league (BCL) condemned the killing and demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to the killers

A Bhola Correspondent reports: Wearing black badges, local journalists brought out a protest procession parading the streets of the town.

This was followed by a meeting which was addressed, among others, by Mokammel Haque, Harunur Rashid, Omar Faroque, Afzal Hossain, Amitab Roy and Hashib Rahman.

A Feni Correspondent reports: Bangladesh Sangbadik Samity formed a human chain and staged a demonstration on Wednesday.

Among others, Mir Hossain Miru (Ajker Kagoje) and Abu Taher (Prothom Alo) addressed the participants of the human chain.
