BIT refutes allegations

Bangladesh International Tutorial (BIT) authorities have refuted the allegations made by the BIT Students' Guardians' Forum that the school has hiked tuition and other fees unreasonably.

On the other hand, the Forum remains firm in its stance over the issue of fee hike.

BIT Principal Lubna Chowdhury in a press release said that tuition fee for Class IV to Class VIII per term (four months) was Tk 8,000 in 1998 and has been raised gradually during the last five years to Tk 13,200 and the proposed fee is Tk 14,520 per term.

The tuition fee for Playgroup to Class III has also been raised progressively and never in one year, she said, adding that compared to any other institutions of this standard, the fee is very reasonable.

"Apart from tuition and annual fees, we do not charge any other fees," she said.

Meanwhile, Convenor of the Guardians' Forum Rina Rahman has reiterated her earlier stance.

"The fact is that except for tuition fees, the school does not give any receipt for annual fees. It also does not mention the sectors of the fees," she said.

A delegation of the Forum met Education Minister Dr Osman Farruk at his residence on Sunday and submitted a memorandum calling on the government to formulate a guideline for the English Medium schools with restrictions on unreasonable fee hike.
