French engineering firm eyes India as major hub

French engineering giant Alstom is eyeing the Indian market as a major hub for its global operations.

Alstom, which specialises in energy and transport solutions, is strategising to make India a global outsourcing centre, a company spokesperson Monday said.

India ranks among the company's top ten profit-making countries, with a total turnover of Rs 1,600 crore and employing about 6,500 people.

Keeping this in view, a 10-member delegation of Alstom's top management team from Paris, led by its executive vice-president Mr Philippe Joubert will arrive here tomorrow on a week-long visit.

While conducting a global power sector meeting in India, the team will visit the company's three major manufacturing locations at Vadodara in Gujarat, Shahabad in Karnataka and Durgapur in West Bengal. In addition to meeting key customers, a technology mission from the company is also studying the potential in India.

Alstom has a successful track record in India, having erected the country's first integrated power project (IPP) in Andhra Pradesh, the GVK industries 235 MW combined cycle power project (CCPP) at Jegurupadu and numerous other thermal power projects all over India.

It has also been associated with the Delhi Metro in installing the signaling and train communications systems, the heart of the DMRC.
