Saudi clash kills cop, 2 militants

Gunmen and security forces battled in a neighborhood of the capital yesterday, and the shootout left two militants and one policeman dead, an official said. At least one militant fled. Authorities closed exits to the eastern al-Quds neighborhood and a large number of police cars and ambulances converged on the scene, witnesses said. Police helicopters patrolled above, witnesses said. Police were hunting for a militant who fled in a stolen car, the official said. It was not immediately clear if the militants were on a list of 26 most-wanted terrorists sought for previous attacks in the Gulf kingdom.
