3 outlaws die in shootout

Three top outlaw leaders were killed reportedly in separate skirmishes with police and joint forces in Mirpur in Kushtia and Alamdanga in Chuadanga yesterday.

Sirazul Islam alias Shahin, 40, was arrested by Kushtia police with 191 bullets from Khaerpur village Tuesday.

Police said they took Shahin, alleged leader of outlawed Biplabi Communist Party (BCP) and accused of 20 criminal offences, to Khaerpur to recover hidden arms as he admitted during interrogation.

At one stage, BCP cadres opened fire on police near Kolbaria bridge at around 3:00am.

Police returned fire, triggering an hour-long shootout, during which Shahin tried to run away but received six bullets in his chest, abdomen and legs and died on way to hospital.

Shahin's family members alleged police shot him dead and invented a story.

UNB reports: Zia and Uzzal, regional leaders of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party's Janajuddha faction, were killed in a gunfight with joint forces in Atharokhada village in Alamdanga.

A team of joint forces raided the house of Abdul Mannan and came under fire at 7:30am. As joint forces returned fire, Zia, Uzzal and his wife Halima were compelled to surrender with their firearms.

Joint forces took Zia and Uzzal to Atharokhada to seize their arms where PBCP cadres opened fire on them. A police officer seeking anonymity said the outlaws died in a shootout that followed.
