NSC submits Tk 60 crore budget

The National Sports Council (NSC) has prepared a Tk 60 crore budget for the development of sports and running its different programmes in the coming financial year (2004-2005).In the proposed budget, Tk 2.5 crore has been sought for training. The NSC spent Tk 1.7 crore last year for this purpose. A major portion of this budget -- Tk 10 crore -- will be spent for participation in different international Games. Despite having this fund, the NSC usually takes extra help from the finance ministry during trips abroad. For foreign tours of different federations, it has asked for Tk 35 lakh. It was also learned that the NSC has proposed for a special fund of Tk 15 crore for helping different federations. The divisions and the districts are likely to get Tk 5 and 3 lakh respectively for the financial year. The NSC will also get Tk 40 crore for 2004-05 under the Annual Development Programme. The amount will be spent to renovate the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong, construction of new stadiums in Habiganj and Chuadanga, a women's sports complex in Bogra and continue works at 16 venues across the country.
