Samson H Chowdhury elected TIB chairman


Noted industrialist Samson H Chowdhury has been elected chairman of the Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) for three years.

Chowdhury was elected unanimously at the annual general meeting of the TIB Board of Trustees on May 27. He has been a member of the TIB Board of Trustees since its inception in 1996.

Chowdhury took over as the TIB president yesterday replacing Prof. Khan Sarwar Murshid.

A successful entrepreneur, Chowdhury has turned the Square Group into a leading conglomerate with his merit, professional integrity and leadership, said a TIB press release.

Two other members of the Board of Trustees -- noted social worker Ruhi Gaznabi and economist Prof. Mozaffar Ahmed -- were elected secretary general and treasurer of the TIB respectively.

Ruhi Gaznabi, owner of the Aranya and also the president of the National Crafts Council, has replaced Towfiq Nawaj and Prof. Muzaffar Ahmed replaced Aminul Haq.

Other members of the trustee board are Syed Humayun Kabir, Prof. Khan Sarwar Murshid, Advocate Towfiq Nawaj, Kazi Aminul Huq and Mahfuz Anam, editor of the Daily Star.
