Fuel station owners to go on strike from June 15

The owners and employees of petrol pumps and tank-lorries on June 15 are going on an indefinite strike to protest extortion and harassment by police in the capital.

The leaders and employees in a statement yesterday said they had threatened to go on an indefinite strike if the government failed to stop police extortion at different points in the capital by June 14.

The strike will include all depots in Dhaka and Narayanganj, the statement said. The leaders and employees will restrain from supplying fuel to the airlines and fuel traders, the statement added.

The decision was made at a joint meeting of the fuel providers association, tank-lorry owners association and tank-lorry workers association at Sharif Mansion in Motijheel.

A nine-member committee with Sazzadul Karim Kabul as convenor was formed at the meeting.
