Police recovered the body of Nasim Islam, son of Kamrul Islam of village Raja Birat under Gobindaganj upazila, on Tuesday after a case was filed with Gobindaganj Police Station. They sent it to Gaibandha hospital for autopsy.

Police said Nasim was abducted from Raja Birat market on May 29. His family failed to trace him despite an exhaustive search.

Nasim's father Kamrul received a call on his mobile phone the next day and the anonymous caller demanded Tk 50,000 as ransom for the release of his son. As told by the caller, he rushed to Gabtoli in Dhaka and met one Saju of Raja Birat who agreed to settle the matter. Kamrul however became suspicious of Saju and with the help of locals caught Saju and brought him to Raja Birat.

Police arrested Saju after the father filed the case against two persons.

According to Saju's confessional statement, police recovered Nasim's body from a ditch in village Bhuya. The other accused is still at large.
