300 cheated Bangladeshis stranded in Laos

Some 300 Bangladeshi workers, hooked up by unscrupulous manpower agencies, remained stranded in Laos.

This was disclosed by Khampasong Douangsithi, ambassador-designate of Laos stationed in New Delhi, when he met FBCCI (Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry) President Abdul Awal Mintoo at the Federation Bhaban here yesterday.

The Bangladeshi workers have been temporarily allowed to stay in Laos, the ambassador said.

They also discussed matters relating to expansion of economic cooperation and bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Laos.

Since there is no direct trade between Bangladesh and Laos, both Douangsithi and Mintoo agreed that there should be direct trade and also exchange of visit by trade delegations from apex business bodies of the two countries.

They also agreed to sign a joint cooperation agreement between the two apex business bodies for enhancing trade and economic cooperation between the private sectors of Bangladesh and Laos.
