AusAID to provide Tk 26cr for pry education

The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) will provide Tk 26 crore for the development of primary education in Bangladesh.

An agreement was signed between the Aus AID and the Unicef in this regard yesterday.

Under the agreement, the Unicef will use the funds for the Primary Education Development Programme-II during July 2004-June 2007 period.

Australian High Commissioner Lorraine Barker and Acting Representative of Unicef Dr Rosella Morelli signed the agreement in the city.

The government has been implementing a number of projects to improve the quality of primary education for the last one decade with the assistance from the Unicef and other donors.

The Unicef-supported Intensive District Approach to Education for All Project is one of the key projects that has been working to improve the quality of primary education since 1996.

The AusAID began to extend its support to this project in 1998.

The government and the development partners jointly initiated the Primary Education Development Programme-II for some basic reforms in the structure and delivery system of primary education for the purpose of sustainable quality education for all children.
