'Bangladesh good for trading but bad for investment'

Investment climate in Bangladesh is not conducive, but the country is suitable for doing trade, a Japanese trade-promotion official said yesterday.Sotaro Nishikawa, representative of Jetro, Dhaka, said this at a press conference while announcing the beginning of a three-day Japan Trade Show at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel from June 8. Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro), Dhaka in association with Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) and Japan embassy in Dhaka is organising the show. Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan will inaugurate the fair, where a total of 57 Japanese companies will display machinery, automobiles, electronics, garment and leather accessories, stationery, chemical and musical equipment. Masahiko Kiya, economic counselor of Japan embassy in Dhaka, and AKM Moazzem Hussain, secretary general of the JBCCI, were also present at the press conference. Commerce Minister Altaf Hossain Choudhury, Japan Ambassador to Bangladesh Matsushiro Horiguchi, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Abdul Awal Mintoo and Board of Investment (BoI) Executive Chairman Mahmudur Rahman will also be present at the inaugural ceremony of the fair. The first day of the fair will remain open only to businesspeople. General public can visit the fair on the remaining two days. After the fair inauguration official launch of the JBCCI will also be held. A Japanese food festival will also be held at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel to mark the occasion.
