Narayanganj will bid to win their maiden national football title when they take on three-time champions Bangladesh Army in today's final of the Sher-e-Bangla Cup 22nd National Football Championship. The final will be telecast live by Bangladesh Television from the Natore Stadium from 4 pm. Narayanganj, featuring a number of current and former national players in Sujan, Liton, Biddyut, Parvez and Ritu and youngsters Abul and Topu, cruised past Bhola 3-1 in the semifinal after eliminating favourites Dhaka University in the final round's group phase. This will be their second final after losing the title to Dhaka University in 1996. For Army, playing in a final is nothing new. Last year's losing finalists lifted the title jointly with Dhaka University in 1980 and 1981 and were crowned champions in 1989. They were runners-up twice in 1982 and 1990. Their star performer this year is prolific striker Nasiruddin, who has won three consecutive man-of-the-match awards in the final round including in their 3-0 thrashing of last year's champions Noakhali in the semifinal.
