Duta president gets threat letter again
DU Correspondent
Dhaka University Teachers Association (Duta) president AAMS Arefin Siddique last night received threats for the third time in less than two months that he would be killed if he did not pay Tk 50,000 in toll. A letter from 'Sarbahara Dal' sent to the Duta office contained the death threat and toll demand. Earlier, he received similar letters from the same 'Sarbahara Dal' on April 4 and April 22. The letters asked the Duta president to pay the toll to Mohammad Kuddus Miah, storekeeper of a garments factory at Ullal Bazar in Savar if he wants to remain alive. The latest letter reads, "Why have you not sent Tk 50,000 to this address? You do not want to live, your condition will be like Ahsanullah Master MP. We have delayed it due to killing of Ahsanullah Master. You will not survive this time!" Police investigating the incident since April 5 are yet to nab anyone. Three policemen have been deployed at Siddique's residence since he received the first letter. One of them seeking anonymity said some people from the campus might be doing these in a planned way. Vice Chancellor SMA Faiz yesterday discussed the matter with some senior teachers and asked police to hunt down the culprits. Meanwhile, the outlawed Purba Banglar Sarbahara Party, known as Sarbahara Party, in a press statement earlier said it had no links to the threats given to the Duta president.
