People fed up with govt
Mahi to contest Munshiganj by-polls
UNB, Dhaka
Bikalpa Dhara Jatiya Committee member Mahi B Chowdhury yesterday said people are fed up with the government and they no more want criminal activities, corruption and poverty."People give the responsibility to run the country through their votes and those who can't perform their responsibility should quit," Mahi B Chowdhury said this while he was addressing a meeting at Ramna market. As part of a mass contact campaign, Mahi visited different markets in the capital and talked to people. He visited Bangabazar, Ramna Bhaban, Jatrabari, Jurain and Postogola markets and talked with common people ahead of announcing the name of his party on May 11 and upcoming by-election in Munshiganj-1 constituency. Munshiganj-1 seat fell vacant following his resignation from parliament last March. He will contest for the seat again in by-election scheduled for June 6. "Bikalpa Dhara won't do any politics of anger, terrorism or destruction and would never call hartals, I promise it to all of you," Mahi said. Referring to the Hawa Bhaban programme of Awami League, he said the opposition party did not require to lay siege to the Bhaban because police had already laid siege to it while the ruling party people ate delicious food and played cricket. "It is a pity that there is room for such fun in politics in the country," he said. He hoped that the ruling party, the prime minister and Tarique Rahman would understand the significance of democracy and free the country from crime. "The country has been divided into two parts over the debate on Bangabandhu and Ziaur Rahman... We feel proud of both of them. They are not comparable with each other and we have to stop the debate over them," he said.
