Eid-e-Miladunnabi today


The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, marking the birth of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM), will be celebrated today across the country as elsewhere in the Muslim world with due religious fervour, festivity and solemnity.

On this day, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hijri calendar, Muhammad (SM) was born with divine blessings and messages of peace for humankind. He also passed away the same day.

The day is a public holiday. All business, commercial and private organisations will remain closed.

President Iajuddin Ahmed and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia have given separate messages on the occasion.

President Iajuddin Ahmed in a message urged all to follow the ideals of Muhammad (SM) to fight corruption, terrorism, social instability and illiteracy. The ideals of the greatest Prophet are also essential to establish equality, truth and justice in society, he said.

The prime minister in her message said the Prophet had established dignity and prestige of women in society. She said peace and welfare could be established in today's world by following the Prophet's teachings.

Khaleda said the greatest Prophet has set up a unique example of showing mutual respects, tolerance to others' opinions and remaining stick to the truth and justice.

Muslims across the country will observe the day with various programmes. Milad mahfils, waz mahfils, discussions and special prayers will be held to signify the occasion.

Various religious, socio-cultural organisations and political parties will organise processions, doa mahfils and graveyard visits.

Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television and satellite TV channels will air special programmes.

Bangla Academy will hold a discussion meeting on "The Philosophy of Mohammad (SM): Patience and Tolerance" at the academy's seminar room at 4:30pm.

Central Fulkuri Asar will hold children's rally and prize distribution programme at National Press Club at 10:30am. Education Minister Osman Faruk will attend the function as chief guest.
