20 injured in Patuakhali clash


At least 20 persons including a Union Parishad (UP) member were injured in a gambler-villager clash at South Dharandi village in Sadar upazila on Thursday.

Police and local people said to this correspondent on the concluding day of a two-day Baishakhi Mela (fair), gamblers vitiated the atmosphere of the fair. About 50 villagers attacked the gamblers which they retaliated. Six persons sustained injuries and were admitted to Patuakhali General Hospital. They are UP member Abdus Salam Maridha, 45, Faruq, 40, Abdul Halim, 25, Fezle Ali Khan, 88, Ruhul Amin, 50, and Saheb Ali, 25, all of South Dharandi village.
