Chuadanga Govt College closed sine die
2 JCD men expelled, none of 20 accused of beating teachers held

The Chuadanga Government College has been closed sine die.

College authorities made the announcement after a meeting of teachers held on Thursday with Principal Abdul Jalil in the chair.

The meeting also decided to expel two of the students who attacked and injured five teachers including vice-principal Enamul Haq on the campus on Tuesday.

The meeting also blamed police for their alleged inaction in arresting the culprits, who are activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of ruling BNP.

The expelled students are Jhony Sheikh alias Tapos, a second year student of the college and joint secretary of Sadar upazila unit of JCD and Morshedul Islam, a party activist.

Sources said, about 20 JCD activists, led by the two, made the attack when the teachers were holding a meeting at the teacher's lounge.

The attack is a sequel to an incident on Monday, in which Physics teacher Sahin Uddin asked his student Nurul Islam, a JCD activist, to give attention to class. But the

student took it as an insult. He along with some students belonging to JCD left the class noisily.

Chuadanga district BNP leaders had proposed a meeting with the college authorities to settle the

matter but the college authorities declined to sit with them before arrest of the culprits.

After Tuesday's attack on teachers, the college authorities filed a case accusing 21 JCD activists but police could not arrest any of them till Thursday.

Three of the five injured teachers are now under treatment at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
