Police yesterday recovered the five-part sliced body of Shariful Islam, 24, son of late Shamsul Haq of Harishankarpur, from the Garai River near Shelidah in Kumarkhali.

Family sources said a gang allegedly belonging to Hamidul-Rashidul group, which had a feud with the victim over social matter, stormed into Shariful's house and picked up him at gunpoint at about 10:00pm Monday.

The gang demanded a ransom of Tk 2 lakh for his release and threatened his family members to kill him if the demand is not met within 24 hours.

Police sent the body to Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy.
