Shibir-JCD clash leaves 50 hurt in Jessore

Jessore MM College was closed for an indefinite period yesterday following a clash between the activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Islami Chhatra Shibir that left 50 people injured.Witnesses said the trouble began at 10:45am over admission tests of honours and master's part-I courses. Both sides used hockey sticks, Chinese axes and exploded crackers during the clash that continued till 12:30pm. The office of the principal was ransacked during the clash. Police rushed to the campus, but failed to bring the situation under control. Later, riot police joined them and charged baton, lobbed teargas shells and fired blank shots to disperse the warring JCD and Shibir activists. The injured were admitted to Jessore General Hospital and local clinics. Police arrested 12 JCD and Shibir men in connection with the clash.
