Mahi threatens to quit JS if Altaf, his deputy are not expelled

BNP lawmaker Mahi B Chowdhury yesterday threatened to quit parliament if the home minister and his deputy were not expelled for their failure to nab the attackers of prominent writer Humayun Azad.

"Both home minister and the state minister for home should be expelled as they failed to give security to a distinguished writer and teacher of Dhaka University (DU)," he told a protest rally of DU teachers and students at Aparajeyo Bangla on the campus.

Mahi, who is apparently having strained relations with the ruling BNP since his father Prof B Chowdhury resigned from the presidency, expressed solidarity with the general students and teachers, who were demonstrating on the campus demanding immediate resignation of the home minister and immediate arrest of the culprits.

"Members of parliament represent the people. Being people's representative it's not possible for me to take a position against the people," he said.
