Dr Mohiul Haque joins as BRRI DG

Dr Mohiul Haque, a renowned plant breeder, took over as the new director general of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) yesterday. Prior to his new assignment, he was discharging the responsibility of director (Administration) of the BRRI, says a press release. Born in Faridpur in 1948, Dr Haque obtained his B.Sc (Honours) and M.Sc degrees in Botany from Dhaka University in 1969 and 1970 respectively. He joined the BRRI as scientific officer in 1973. He took his MS degree in 1975 and completed Ph.D in 1989 from the University of the Philippines. He made significant contribution in augmenting food production in the country by involving himself with the research and development of 39 high-yielding varieties of rice. Dr Haque is married and has one son and one daughter.
