Car theft
7 Sylhet JCD men acquitted


Seven activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) here have been acquitted of car theft charge.

They are Ahmed Habib Ibne Islam Chamak, Junel Ahmed, Aminur Rahman Pamel, Lipu Gani, Dibya Roy, Rahi and Manna.

Magistrate Shoaib Ahmed Khan of the Speedy Trial Court gave the judgment yesterday.

Earlier on December 1, the same court convicted them on the charge of assaulting an army officer in Sylhet city on the night of November 7, 2003.

Chamak was awarded five years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fined Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer one month more imprisonment.

In the same case, Rahi, Junel, Pamel, Dibya, Lipu and two others were given three years RI and were fined Tk 3,000 each, in default, to suffer 15 days more imprisonment.

During the incident, the JCD men used a private car owned by one Mashuk Ahmed, also a JCD leader.

Mashuk filed a case against them for stealing the car.
