BSS, Dhaka
Commonwealth has taken an initiative to overcome the setback that the World Trade Organisation (WTO) sponsored trade talks at Cancun suffered in September last, official sources said.As part of it, Commerce Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury will attend important meetings on a mission of other Commonwealth ministers at Geneva, Washington, London, Tokyo and Brussels from February 9 to 19. This mission will include trade ministers from Bangladesh, Nigeria, Botswana, Barbados and Fiji. The mission has been set up as per a decision of the Commonwealth summit held recently in the Nigerian capital Abuja. This mission aims at meeting important persons who are sitting at the central stage of trade negotiations to seek more constructive and flexible approach towards the Doha development agenda. The overall objective of the mission is to work out a quick consensus among all stakeholders on the Cancun round of trade talks.
