Asia-Pacific micro-credit confce in Dhaka from Feb 16

A four-day Asia-Pacific regional micro-credit conference will be held in Dhaka in February, a spokesman said. "The conference will be opened on February 16 by Prime Minister Khaleda Zia," conference spokesman Kamrul Hasan Monju said. He told AFP that the guests would include Queen Sofia of Spain, Misa Telefoni, deputy prime minister of Samoa and Indian former defence minister Sharad Power, along with experts from China, India, the World Bank and non-governmental organisations. Bangladesh is home to the Grameen Bank which is credited with innovating a unique micro-credit system to help overcome poverty.
