Transport strike planned for Jan 5-6 called off


Transport owners and workers yesterday withdrew their strike called for January 5-6, following a negotiation with the government.

Bangladesh Road Transport Owners-Workers Unity Council President Abdul Gaffar Biswas announced the decision after a meeting with the Communications Minister Nazmul Huda.

In the meeting, the minister assured the transport leaders of implementing the agreement signed earlier between the two sides.

Members of the committee formed by the prime minister to resolve problems in the transport sector were present in the meeting.

They are Housing and Public Works Minister Mirza Abbas, State Minister for Overseas Employment and Expatriates Welfare Amanullah Aman and State Minister for Home Lutfozzaman Babar.

Leaders of the transport owners and workers present in the meeting are Shahjahan Khan MP, Mashiur Rahman Ranga MP, Habibur Rahman Khan, Abdul Gaffar Biswas and Shamsur Rahman Shimul.
