Extortionist killed

An extortionist was beaten to death by mob and another received critical injuries at Malmary village under Gangnj upazila in Meherpur district on Saturday night. The mob also recovered firearms from them and handed those to police. The dead was identified as Hamidul Islam, 42, of the aforesaid village. Police said the extortionists, allegedly belonging to an outlawed party, demanded toll from farmers at the village. At night they went to realise the money from them. As soon as they reached there, the villagers encircled and beat them up. On information police rushed to the spot and rescued them. But one of them named Hamidul died on way to hospital while his associates Mafizul Islam alias Bachchu, 25, is now under treatment.
