Nab Banshkhali killers in two weeks: Dr Kamal
Staff Correspondent, Ctg
Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain yesterday gave a two-week ultimatum to the government to bring the perpetrators of Banshkhali carnage to book, saying a mass probe commission would be formed otherwise to find out the killers. Addressing a civic condolence rally as the chief guest at Jalodi in seaboard Banshkhali upazila, he said his call gave voice to the demand of people in Banshkhali and elsewhere for immediate trial and exemplary punishment to the killers who incinerated 11 members of a minority family on November 11. Dr Kamal expressed frustration that the killers were yet to be hunted down one and a half months after the bloodbath and accused the home minister as well as the government of sitting on the hands. "It apparently shows the government's willingness to harbour criminals," he said. Organised by Chittagong unit of the Nagorik Samaj (NS), the function was also addressed by Awami League Presidium Member Ataur Rahman Khan Kaiser, Workers' Party Politburo Member Haider Akbar Khan Rano, CPB leader Mrinal Chowdhury, Basad leader Abdullah Sarker, Advocate Harisadhan Brahman and Chittagong Bar Association President Ferdous Ahmad Chowdhury with NS convener Zahiruddin Ahmed in the chair. Earlier, the Gono Forum leader visited the carnage scene at Sadhanpur Shilpara and unveiled the plaque of a monument put up there in memory of the massacre victims.
