Preview--Ei Shomoy

Tanmoy Karmokar is the director as well as the playwright of Ei Shomoy. The play is based on the loneliness and the problems that the elderly people are facing in most of the joint families these days. In the play, the dramatist has pointed out some eternal social problems and lack of humanity in a society. The protagonists of the play-- an old couple, later on realise that unknown people are more caring than their own children. Shudarshan Mukhoti is the set designer while Saikat Mukharjee is the light designer of the play.

Bhobishwat, a theatrical group from Kolkata, will stage two shows of the family-play Ei Shomoy at 4:00p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Public Library Auditorium, today.

Bhalo Chhele, a review

Recently, Daandik from Kolkata staged Bhalo Chhele by Shekhor Somaddar at the Public Library Auditorium as part of the drama festival arranged by Nagorik Natyangon. The play deals with the crisis of the students of this day. They suffer, as teachers insist that they take private tuition. The parents also create unbearable mental pressure for them to excel in exams. The playwright shows that an innocent student may be involved with unfair means to prove himself as a 'good student'. In the play Rhonitendra, the youngest son of Abinesh, steals his mathematics answer-script, as his exam is not satisfactory enough. After that, the whole family suffers. Ultimately the boy commits suicide to escape from societal pressure.

As a director Malay Chawdhury was realistic. He had used all parts of the stage. However, he could not follow Staneslavosky's realistic technique. There was nothing exceptional about the set designing of Jayanto Roy.

Visibility, which is the basic requirement of light designing, was not followed by Bijoy Chattaypadhya.. Malay Banarjee's bold performance as a pleader was outstanding. Malay Chaudhury and Pushpita Das also acted well.
