PM plans to form panel of advisers with professionals

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has expressed her willingness to form of a panel of advisers with experienced professionals to advise the government on various issues.

The experts in different professions can help the government by giving their suggestions in light of their experience in the greater interest of the nation, she said when a delegation of the Association of Engineers, Bangladesh (AEB) called on her at the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday.

The delegation included the newly elected office-bearers of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). The AEB panel secured six posts out of the total eight in the recently held IEB polls.

The Prime Minister congratulated the AEB leaders on their victory in the IEB polls.

Speaking on the occasion, she said the nation could not attain expected progress over the last 32 years, as continuation of development programmes was not maintained in the country.

She called upon the engineers to make the best use of their merit and experience for the development and welfare of the people.

Khaleda Zia advised the engineers working in different sectors, including construction and industry, to give priority to national interest while discharging their professional duties.

She asked the engineers involved in the government's development projects to complete the projects in time and stop misuse of resources. Referring to the limited resources in the country, she urged them to ensure the optimum use of public wealth.

Responding to some demands raised by the engineers, the prime minister said appointment to the vacant posts in government offices has already begun. Appointment of engineers in relevant posts would be enhanced, she said.
