Organised by the local unit of Udichi, the discussion meeting styled 'Audwaita Mallabarman O Titas Akti Nadir Nam' was scheduled to be held on the Kasba T Ali College campus. But, the vice-principal of the college clamped a ban on the programme allegedly under pressure from some unruly young men and college students.

Local people said some students of the college as well as outsiders, led by ICS activists and accompanied by JCD leader Iqbal, forced the vice-principal to halt the programme.

Brahmanbaria Sahitya Academy, however, was fortunate, as it could manage to hold a daylong fair at Gaukarna Ghat, the birthplace of the writer, to mark the day. Nirmal Barman inaugurated the fair that included a discussion, where Advocate Liton Dey, M Hasan and AKM Shibly spoke, among others, with MA Yousuf in the chair.
