Second round
Dhaka-Delhi FTA talks postponed

The second round of Bangladesh-India talks on Free Trade Agreement (FTA), scheduled for January 7 in New Delhi, has been postponed, diplomatic sources said here yesterday.

They said another date for the meeting might be fixed after studying the development of current negotiation on the South Asian Free Trade Area (Safta) in Pakistan.

Saarc officials, now in Islamabad in preparation for the upcoming Saarc summit (January 4-6), are engaged in negotiations on the crucial economic issue.

Before departure for Islamabad Wednesday, Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan said he hoped that Saarc leaders would be able to reach a consensus on the Safta.

The first round of the Dhaka-New Delhi talks on the FTA and non-tariff barriers was held here October 21 last year.
