The dead are Dinesh, 48, of village South Kulkhali and shrimp trader Neser Ali Moral, 34, of village Char Moloy of the upazila.

According to police, Dinesh was hacked to death early yesterday by a gang of unidentified miscreants in front of his house. Locals said Dinesh was killed for refusing to give his daughter in marriage with one of the alleged killers.

Neser was gunned down by underground operatives belonging to Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) at about 9:00am at Hitampur village in the same upazila.

According to witnesses, the outlaws shot Neser point blank in the head and chest. He died on the spot.

Police said the outlaws had earlier demanded illegal toll from Neser, but he refused to give in to their demand.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to hospital morgue for autopsy. No-one was arrested for the murders till 6:00pm yesterday.

Two separate murder cases were filed with Paikgacha Police Station.
