Order to axe 252
Aleem Jute Mills workers march streets with clubs


Tension is mounting Aleem Jute Mills here following an order for retrenchment of 252 "permanent" workers of the mill.

The order passed by the BJMC (Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation) head office in Dhaka was received by the mill authorities on Tuesday, said Abdul Hamid Sarder, president of the workers union.

After hearing the news, the workers on Tuesday brought out a stick procession protesting the retrenchment order.

When contacted, the mill authorities acknowledged receipt of the order.
