Kidnapped teacher yet to be rescued


A retired schoolteacher, kidnapped for Tk 6 lakh ransom 10 days ago, is yet to be rescued.

Police said they arrested three suspects but kidnappers of Sushil Ranjan Talukder alias Jhantu are yet to be nabbed.

Police of Tahirpur and Madhyanagar thanas in Sunamganj district and of neighbouring Kalmakanda thana in Netrokona district searched several areas in the hills near the Indian state of Meghalaya in the last eight days. They were assisted by BDR during the search, police officials said,

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has also been requested for assistance, a police official said.

"We are facing problem in the search operation as the place is in bordering hill area. We sought co-operation from the Indian BSF because there are reports that the victim was kept in hills in the Indian territory", one official said.

A gang of dacoits kidnapped the retired schoolteacher from his village home at Bhabanipur under Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj on the night of 20 May.
