Tributes to Zia in districts


The 22nd death anniversary of late president Ziaur Rahman was observed in Rajshahi, Nilphamari and Sirajganj.

BSS reports from Rajshahi: BNP and its front organisations; different social-cultural, professional and student bodies organised various programmes on the occasion.

The programme began with hoisting of party flags at half-mast and black flags atop offices of BNP and its front organisations.

The programmes included quran khwani, milad mahfil, feeding of destitutes, discussion meetings, photo exhibitions; and blood donation and cultural programmes.

Post and Telecommunications Minister Aminul Haque and Mayor of Rajshahi Mizanur Rahman MP were the chief guest and special guest respectively at a discussion meeting held at the party office on Friday.

Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal organised a free medical camp and blood donation programme.

Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal and the Shishu Academy organised milad mahfils and discussion meetings.

Abokash Nattya Dal in collaboration with Sandhani at RMC organised a blood donation programme at Luxmipur crossing.

RU Correspondent reports: Jatiyatabadi Chhatral Dal (JCD) and its units at Rajshahi University and Rajshahi Merdical College jointly organised a day long free medical camp at Kajla gate in the university area on Friday.

Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) Director Nurul Islam and RMC inaugurated the medical camp. Prof Dayem Uddin was also present. About 500 poor patients got free treatment and medicine there.

The university unit of Zia Parishad arranged a discussion meeting at Jubery Bhabon. RU Vice Chancellor attended the meeting.

A milad mahfil was held at the central mosque after Jumma prayer.

Our Nilphamari Correspondent reports: The district unit of BNP organised a two-day programme to mark the day.

The programmes included quran khwani, milad mahfil and feeding of destitutes on Friday. Saturday's programmes included blood donation and free medical treatment in collaboration with the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB).

A discussion on Zia's life and works was held at the local BNP office which was addressed by, among others, Anisul Arefin Chowdhury, Alamgir Sarker.

Our Sirajganj Correspondent adds: Sirajganj district BNP chalked out two-day programmes to observe the day. The programmes included quran khwani, milad mahfil, discussion meetings and destitute feeding.

A procession was brought out in the town. State Minister for Power Iqbal Hasan Mahmood led the procession.
