Staff Correspondent, Khulna
Three government agencies have started investigation to find out how many former outlaws and persons having criminal background are serving in the police department in the 10 south-western districts. It is also being probed to identify the persons responsible for their recruitment through 'false verification report in exchange of bribe', said a highly placed source at Khulna DIG's office. The agencies will submit a report to the authorities concerned along with lists of policemen having criminal background, including outlaws who managed to get jobs through illegal means. The list will be checked and rechecked before submission, the source said. Presence of former outlaws and criminals in police department has now posed a serious threat to law and order in the south-western districts, the source said. Concrete evidences will be produced along with the investigation report for immediate action against the 'criminals wearing police uniform', the source said. Officers who helped the outlaws obtain 'false' verification reports will not be spared. A through investigation is also going on in the Ansar department, the source said, refusing to comment when asked whether the criminals were provided with jobs under political influence.
