Accept demands by June 5: SSKOP leaders

Sangbadik Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (SSKOP) yesterday urged the government to accept its 7-point demand including announcement of 60 per cent dearness allowance by constituting the 6th wage board by June 5.Otherwise, a tough programme will be announced on June 5, the SSKOP leaders said at a rally in front the Daily Ittefaq in the city. Presided over by Secretary General of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Akhtar Ahmed Khan, the rally was addressed by SSKOP leaders Manjurul Alam, Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, Omar Faruque, Abdus Shahid, Asadullah, Abul Hashem, Shah Jalal Mia and Motiur Rahman, Vice President of DUJ Saiful Islam Talukder, Special Correspondent of Daily New Nation Sheikh Mohiuddin, former Secretary General of Karmachari Federation Mir Muzammel Hossain, Khandaker Golam Jilani, Kazi Bazlur Rahman and Golam Sarwar Azad of daily Ittefaq, Abdul Mannan of The Daily Star and Rafiqul Islam of Daily New Nation. A token work stoppage of two hours from 11 am to 1 pm was observed in all newspapers and news agencies as part of the movement for realising the 7-point demand including formation of 6th wage board and formulation of national policy on newspaper industry. Yesterday was the last day of the ongoing programme announced on April 20 last from the grand rally at National Press Club. Similar rallies were also held earlier in front of Daily Prothom Ali, Daily Janakantha, Daily Jugantor, Bangladesh Observer and Banglabazar Patrika.
