Raid on AL office: Case filed against AL leaders

A case was filed with Kotwali police here yesterday accusing 11 leaders and workers of Awami League (AL) in connection with Friday's raid on the district AL office, sources said.

The case, filed by Moshiul Alam Sentu, VP of BM College Student Union, accuses the AL men of exploding bombs and beating up BNP leaders on Friday evening. Allegation of theft was also brought against the accused including Talukdar Mohammad Yunus, organising secretary of district AL.

Local AL leaders on the other hand alleged that police refused to register their complaints against local JCD (Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal) and Jubo Dal men who allegedly attacked a meeting at the AL office on Friday evening, injuring Yunus along with four AL activists.

Yunus, who is also former president of Barisal Bar Association, was shown arrested under Section 54 of the CrPC after Kotwali police rescued him from the meeting venue.

Yunus was granted bail after he was produced before the court of magistrate Golam Rahman here yesterday. Manobendra Batabyal, president of Barisal Bar, and other eminent lawyers moved the bail petition.

Cadres of JCD and Jubo Dal allegedly attacked and ransacked the district AL office on Friday evening as a meeting was in progress there. AL leaders and workers at the meeting were also beaten up by the attackers, sources alleged.
